Description
The application of a handstruck stammp was used to indicate postage due proior to the introduction of adhesive postage due stamps in April 1914, the one seen here is the Cockermouth p.o. numeral.
The half-penny postcard rate was made up with a bisected 1d stamp on this card from Cockermouth to Whitehaven. Such practice was disallowed by the post office, resulting in postage due of one penny, or double the deficiency.
